David Diggs was born in Kentucky. His father was a Southern Baptist chaplain in the US Air Force and his mother a teacher with a proud family lineage of SBC leadership. When he was six years old, in 1958, his family moved to Southern California, where they eventually settled in Anaheim and at Euclid Southern Baptist Church. By the age of sixteen the aspiring musican had grown tired of his church's "square music" and had decided to explore other options at Calvary Chapel. Calvary had been opened a couple of years earlier by Chuck Smith. David found his niche at Calvary, playing guitar and producing music in its worship band, but with increasing regularity he also attended Melodyland, another hub of the Jesus movement.

David was a member of the very early group Rebirth and then became a founding member of the Jesus music group Good News, which also included Billy Batstone, Bob Carlisle, and Erick nelson. for a short time he also joined Mason Proffit, let by John and Terry Talbot. He worked with Richie Furay on his early Christian albums and arranged strings for Barry McGuire's Grammy-nominated Cosmic Cowboy. He was also the main man behind the Love Song Strings project that compiled orchestrated, instramental versions of the classic Jesus music group Love Song. For many years, he worked with Pat Boone and Debby Boone, touring with them and arranging and producing their music.

Diggs has gone on toe become a well known jaz instrumentalist in the general market. His album Streetshadows was on Billboard's Top 10 Jazz chart for 26 weeks. Both Billboard and Cashbox ranked him as one of the top three Best New Jazz Artists of 1985. Since then he has not only coninued to make jazz records but has also done arranging, producing, and composing for numerous TV shows and films as well as producing albums for mainstream and Christian artists alike.
