Chris Kent was a bass player from Portland, Oregon. He played with local R&B/Funk band Versus in the late 1980s and moved to Nashville with the group when they won a talent competition, giving them a recording contract on StarSong Records. After the band broke up, Chris went on to be a studio and touring musician, playing with many artists like Larry Carlton, Donna Summer, Shelby Lynn, Twila Paris, Lorrie Morgan, Tony Braxton, George Duke, Dizzy Gillespie, Bob James, Take 6, Steve Winwood, Michael McDonald, Wynonna Judd, to name a few.
Those who knew Chris best will confirm two things: He played fat, funky grooves on his electric bass, and his constant smile conveyed what an upbeat guy he was. His bio on MySpace stated: "I play the low notes that you hear in songs. That's how I describe it to my mom. She understands now after 29 years of listening for the "low notes." I thank God for all that He's allowed me to do and see. I truly love Him."
